Why Malot's Hope?

Why did we chose Malot's Hope for our name? Oh, so glad you asked!

Curtis and I met, once upon a time, in Ethiopia. We were over there with an organization named Youth with a Mission (YWAM). While we were there we lived on a base with a street kids ministry. One of the little girls who was there was about 3, and so cute. We loved her to pieces! We always said if we were older(and of course married!) we would just adopt her and take her home. So I guess you could say our collective desire to adopt came very early in our relationship!

The group from YWAM Ethiopia.

Malot with another little boy Jonas.

Fast forward 6 years, and that base has now turned into the Adoption Ministry of YWAM Ethiopia. The very kids that we were working with were some of the first kids involved! Click on the "so we may be adopted" button on the side to go to their blog and learn more about what is going on there.

While Malot herself is older now, and likely no longer there, little girls just like her are. Little toddlers in need of a home and love. And that, is why she is our namesake, and forever in our hearts!

  2. Hi Amy,
I just wanted to clarify something - the YWAM base in Addis Ababa is not the same as Adoption Ministry. We only share the common YWAM connection. The ministry there is called YWAM Mercy Development and is a home for girls and for boys who have been rescued by Abdissa from the streets of Addis. YWAM has also used that as their DTS base. Our ministry is our four Widows and Orphans Homes and the humanitarian work we do in Ethiopia for widows and orphans. I just didn't want anyone to get the two confused - and it can be confusing! Thanks for your wonderful heart!!
